Born in Cabarrus County, Diane spent most of her youth in Cheraw, SC. She skipped her senior year of high school and returned to Cabarrus County to pursue a business degree from Pfeiffer University. After graduation, she followed her passion, and with Jeanne Hodges established baton twirling studios in Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Durham.
Even though her father built homes and her mother sold them, Diane never planned for a career in real estate. However, in 1978, alongside her mother Betty, Diane obtained her North Carolina real estate license, although she did not join her mother in the real estate business until 1990.
Diane wanted to get involved in her community as much as possible. Starting with the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Cabarrus class, she began to build a life filled with nonprofit community work. Since 1994, Diane has been an active member of the NorthEast Foundation, which supports the Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast mission to serve the community’s medical needs. Notably, she she led the effort to raise over $5.5 million dollars for the Breast Health Center. At different times, she also served as the chair of the Concord Rotary Club, the local American Red Cross, Rowan Cabarrus Community College Foundation, United Way Campaign and local Board and the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce. She has also devoted time to Habitat for Humanity, CVAN, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Brain Injury Association and the Hospice Board. Diane’s community involvement culminated in her running for Cabarrus County Commissioner in 2014. Diane was successfully elected, and continues to serve as vice chair of the Board of Commissioners.
